Sometimes they might cry out in fear, if the teller wants to go the “hellfire and brimstone” route.
Yes, sometimes this is true. But often, these stories are not.
Most of the time, when people are dying, they’re not altogether aware of what’s going on. Nor are they able to form the kind of thought that would lead to speech. Several plays about the last days of Roy Cohn have him talking cogently until the last breath. In fact, his nursing reports have him unable to speak for the last few weeks of his life, and his last known conscious act was a frown, when a nurse wiped his anus.
